So, things are weird.
And like many of you, I’m trying to stay level-headed and not completely lose my shit every five minutes. Because it’s easy to do when you no longer have control of the wheel. I thought this morning about that whole oxygen mask scenario on airplanes and how we have to put them on first before we can help others, and… in theory it’s a nice metaphor. But I worry we’re all just flopping around like that fish at the end of the Faith No More video, panicking in our own obvious and maybe not so obvious ways.
I decided at the tail end of last week that rather than focus on all the new, scary, and different things we have to keep adjusting to, maybe now is the time to accentuate the positive and think about what we DO have that we can be grateful for. What say ye? Here’s my little list of happiness; as always, I’d love to hear from some of you. As scary as these times are, what are you grateful for during all of this? Let me know in the comments!
That I was able to have a baby shower with some of my favorite people in the world. So many pregnant women who waited weren’t given that chance, and I’m grateful that in this case being type A did pay off
I’m grateful that, as of this post, Bryan is still allowed in the delivery room with me. I realize this might change and I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it, but right now I find comfort in knowing he will be by my side
That baby is healthy and has a good heartbeat and that we are less than three weeks from delivery and holy ish, it’s all happening so quickly
And that our nursery is almost done! What I really want is for a certain someone to help me hang things but someone (cough*Bryan*cough) isn’t nearly as type A as I am and likes to wait until the last minute
Despite the fact that he drives me crazy, I’m grateful to have a partner who does a damn fine job of calming me down. In a really adorable moment, he told me over the weekend he’s going to ask his niece for a doll so he can practice putting the baby in and out of the car seat and it was pretty much the cutest thing I’ve ever heard
Even though sometimes he ruins it by blaring car shows in the background while I’m trying to get work done
All of the ways we have to communicate with one another! Phones, zoom, WhatsApp, Skype, FaceTime, etc… And that more and more of us are using these methods to stay connected and SEE each other. Ideal? Of course not. But a breath of fresh air during uncertain times? Absolutely
The incredible global impact this will all have by us staying off the roads, not polluting the environment. Think of how much our Mother Earth is healing during this time of rest
That we live in a time when we have so many conveniences right at our fingertips–food delivery, streaming services, apps to help us stay calm and balanced, podcasts that can help us learn to cook, sew, clean under fridges, WHATEVER YOUR JAM MAY BE. It’s healthy to keep perspective about these things. While mandatory isolation is certainly no walk in the park, at the very least we have a plethora of ways to keep ourselves entertained
What are some things you are grateful for during all of this?
