I’ve been highly stressed lately, which I hear is pretty normal for anyone anticipating surgery. I’ve had a few nightmares lately (really scary end-of-the-world type shit where my part of NJ is bombed and I can’t figure out if I’m actually alive or dead) among other strange Freudian mysteries.
I needed a good weekend—a busy one to keep my mind occupied and my heart full. Between a trek to the city to meet with an old friend and a day of apple and pumpkin picking, I feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle some to do’s before Wednesday. This surgery is sneaking up on me and I’m determined to meal plan and finish up all the laundry and clean as much as I can before I’m off my feet and in an altered medicated state for a few days (I’ll be honest, it doesn’t sound all that bad).
On Saturday I met an old friend in Chelsea and we had lunch at Westville, a busy little spot with incredible dishes like the artichoke burger with kale that I devoured. For dinner I picked up some vegan eats at the Cinnamon Snail in Pennsy (this has become tradition whenever I go into the city).
On Sunday, Bryan and I headed to Apple Ridge Orchards in Warwick, NY (about an hour drive), for apple and pumpkin picking. We purchased a Groupon in advance for $18 which allowed us each a pumpkin, some feed for the animals, apple cider, a hayride, and two apple cider donuts (which are worth the trip, y’all). It was so friggin cold that when Bryan asked if I wanted to go on the hayride I told him “hell no, we grab our apples and pumpkins, see the animals, and then make like a tree and leaf.” (I don’t feel too badly about it; we did the hayride last year. Better with kids maybe?).
Here are some pics from the weekend. What did you do, all?
