I’m super excited today to talk about one of my very favorite things in the entire world and one of the reasons I could never really go fully vegan—cheese. My love affair with cheese started at a young age when my mom would ask me to smuggle it in my luggage after a visit with friends in France (presumably because she didn’t want her suitcase to smell of Camembert. Thanks, mom!).
An addiction was born.
While the origins of fondue are often disputed (it is very popular in France, Italy, and Switzerland), it was promoted as a Swiss national dish in the 1930s. Today fondue is popular worldwide and is a fun way to get together with friends and family. That said, there are some basic etiquette guidelines when it comes to dipping bread or vegetables in a communal pot of cheese. Let’s explore them, shall we?
- Secure your food to skewer before dipping
- If said food is not secure and you lose your food in the cheesy goodness of the pot, Swiss tradition says a woman must kiss the person next to her and a man must buy a round of drinks for all.
- Don’t double dip!
- Only one person should dip at a time.
So, who’s hungry?
Today’s giveaway is for two boxes of Emmi‘s original fondue—which can be made in a crockpot or on the stovetop. Gather your friends for an evening of Cards Against Humanity (I think I’m the last person on Earth to play this game) and get your cheese on. Enter your information in the Rafflecopter below—good luck!
Fondue will ALWAYS make me think of this idiot I dated my senior year of high school. My two girl friends and I wanted to do a nice dinner for prom and the guy I was dating was in charge of food. He wanted to do FONDUE. And we were all livid because we didn’t want it to be messy. It was this whole argument. I remember it clearly, although now I can’t remember why it was that big a deal (why was everything so much more dramatic in high school). Anyway, reading about fondue totally make me think of that.
Finally, I realize what’s been so wrong about this winter – I haven’t had any fondue! Cheese is amazing! Fondue is amazing!
