I used to think that life was designed by a series of random coincidences and that we are each responsible for the chain of events that carries us through our journeys here on earth. It wasn’t until I experienced a few stranger-than-fiction moments in my own life until I realized that maybe there are forces at work behind the scenes that orchestrate a pivotal role.
I now believe there are people who come into our lives for a reason and that the inexplicable things that happen to us every day will one day make sense.
It came as almost no surprise when I received an email from a life coach named Monika Nybom with an offer for two introductory Skype sessions. Why? Because I had just recently set an intention that I needed to do something about my crippling anxiety. Sometimes when you put things out into the universe, the universe pays attention.
Monika and I exchanged emails and set up our first Skype session. I was nervous because I don’t do well on Skype and I was unsure how I could open up to someone I had never met before. Monika made that incredibly easy. Not only was our conversation effortless, but it really felt as though I was speaking to an old friend. There were parts when I felt awkward (there are a few “close-your-eye” moments), but once I eased into the process, she helped me face my fears and release any anger and resentment.
That was eye opening for me. I always struggled with the emotions that appeared on the surface, mainly the hurt, the embarrassment, the self-pity. But I was angry, too, underneath it all and she taught me how to let that go. Her sessions rely heavily on metaphors and she had me assign colors and shapes to my emotions and sensations. She taught me how to change perspective. I started to look back at some of the memories that caused me the greatest anxiety from new heights.
I wept. On a Skype session. With a woman I had never met.
When it was all over, I received a beautiful email from Monika with ways I could continue with what I’ve learned. It’s a detailed, personalized letter that includes things we discussed in our sessions and take-aways to help me moving forward. Now that we are connected, I receive bite-sized daily mantras from her that are empowering and helpful in my quest to take hold of my life again. She also has podcasts available on iTunes and meditation practices. Her voice (and adorable accent) are perfect for lulling you into a deep meditative state.
