I was not compensated for this post. I received a mattress from Eight Sleep in exchange for this review; all opinions are entirely my own.
I read a staggering statistic recently that the average person spends 25 years asleep. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS! Because of the amount of time we actually spend in bed, it would make sense to invest in a good mattress that we can agree on with our significant others.
But that’s often the rub, isn’t it? Bryan is always hot, and I am usually freezing. I prefer my mattress on the softer side, while Bryan tends to gravitate towards firmer mattresses because of his back issues. We’ve tried a variety of mattresses over the years but none that specifically cater to BOTH of our needs.
Enter Eight Sleep, a mattress designed with couples in mind that allows each partner to customize their sleep experience. Using innovative technology, proven science, and data, this company has created a premier line of products to change the way people sleep.
The mattress I was sent offers four layers that are supportive but also soft and cushy. Here is how it breaks down: the bottom layer is made of 4” density support, followed by 2” supportive transition, then 2” contouring memory, and finally the top layer is comprised of 2” reactive foam. Overall, the material of the mattress feels very similar to memory foam (i.e., the mattress will contour to your body), but has a bit more oomph to it, so you get pressure relief as well.
I wish that I had the chance to try out some of their other technology, which is fully integrated into a downloadable app so that I could adjust the temperature settings and also see just how I’m sleeping at night. Overall, I’ve found that the mattress is very lightweight and that I’m comfortable at night. Bryan also said that he hasn’t been warm since using this one, so I think that even without the extra tech built in, you’ll notice quite a few differences from a typical mattress.
This also gets extra bonus points for being lower than our previous bedding (by at least two inches, since our former mattress had an extra pillow top). We always laugh when Buster backs up to jump on the bed and we cheer him on when he has a perfect landing like we’re his gymnastics coaches. I’m confident he won’t have any problems jumping up on this one, which is comforting to us since Baba is a senior now and needs his ZZZs. And yes, of course we sleep with our pup in our bed!
This company is so confident in their research, that they offer a 100-day guarantee for anyone dissatisfied with their products—they’ll even pick them up for free!

Great review, Charlotte. A mattress choice is very important. This sounds like some new technology that really works to keep couples happy. A form of marital therapy if you will 😀 25 years asleep, huh? I guess Sleeping Beauty wasn’t that crazy after all.
