*Tap, tap, tap. ‘Member me?*
Good God, it’s been a long time since I have visited this page to check in… and an even longer time still since I’ve had the chance to poke around in the blog world and catch up with all of your lovely blogs.
How has the summer been treating you lately?
I have to be honest–things have been a bit stressful. I’m glad to be settling into the new apartment and I’m ecstatic to have the move behind me. The first of July was a day of frustration and hair pulling, which was amplified by the fact that the moving company decided to flake and not show up, either because of inclement weather or because they were a sheisty operation out of Brooklyn with a Hoboken mailing address. Regardless, it’s over and done with; now I have to allow some time to get over the hiccups of living with someone after an extended tenure of the bachelorette lifestyle. This is a period of readjustment.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m extremely excited to be in this phase of our relationship. But I’m realizing quickly that Bryan and I have very different ways of going about things and our ways sometimes conflict and well, cause conflict. The hardest part has been letting go of a sense of control (always easier said than done for two ridiculously stubborn Type A personality types). I find myself bickering over stupid things I honestly couldn’t care less about, because I keep forgetting that this isn’t just MY space. I didn’t realize how comfortably I had nestled into having my cozy nook in Hoboken where I could lounge around in my ugly pajamas and watch back-to-back episodes of Real Housewives. In addition, it seems the box full of knick knacks, beads, figurines, and fairy paintings I have doesn’t fit the decor and I’m getting accustomed to a TV that could swallow my old non-flatscreen five times over (I guess that’s not the WORST thing…).
Bryan and I have tried lately to approach our relationship in an entirely new way: this is all uncharted territory for us. The good news is that we can still have fun and kick back (which I think is necessary). Last night we went to see Phish, we have another show coming up on Friday, and I’m trying with all my might to get the ball rolling on getting a vacation organized. Suggestions are welcome.
I’m absolutely loving my new digs and the neighbors here. Last weekend, we were greeted with fresh vegetables from the local farmer’s market and a note welcoming us to the neighborhood. And! So many friendly dog-walkers in our area (Bryan and I have made it a point to introduce ourselves to them all already). They must think we’re dog-stalking them, which essentially, we are.
How are you, my sweet ones?
