On Friday night at 5:30 I was perched on a barstool at the Brass Rail in Hoboken waiting for my date to arrive. I was a bit nervous but Jim seemed normal and nice on paper–good job, liked dogs, Phish fan, blues musician. I wasn’t particularly impressed with his photos since he wore a suit in most of them and his face looked a bit weathered. I was worried that there might not be a physical attraction but I almost didn’t recognize him when he appeared next to me at the bar. A new beard gave him a rugged look and I loved the tshirt with a fun, obscure Phish reference. He looked the part of a hippy (I can’t help it, I have a type).
Though the first few moments were a bit awkward, we relaxed over a few glasses of wine and agreed to walk uptown to a good Thai restaurant once we had had enough to drink (though we made a stop at a liquor store to pick up another bottle of red). After dinner I checked my watch. 10:30. We had been together for five hours and I hadn’t even noticed.
We swapped dating horror stories and he told me about his children. I am not crazy about this, but I realize it’s a fact of life dating at this stage in the game. I am taking a “cross that bridge” stance for now and am trying not to think too much about it. Maybe because I’m still just trying to have a good time.
Once we had made it out of the restaurant, he asked if I’d like to come to his apartment. “Sure!” said verschockered brain.
About an hour later, he had me in a tight embrace on the couch, his fingers moving up the inside of my bulky sweater. He kissed passionately and with purpose. I responded, nibbling his ear and tracing my fingertips along his sides. I threatened to leave once. Twice. But booze and hormones and good kisser made me stay put. Finally I rested a hand on his shoulder and told him I had to go. I grabbed my coat and stepped out into the cold winter night.
We are meeting for dinner again this evening. To be continued…

So I am totally behind on my blog reading. Bare with me as I catch up! I love that you have a type! I never really did. Well, other than the fact that I dated 3 guys named Dave and married a Dave. =)
